RE: OPPOSITION TO AB 1886 (As Amended August 24, 2022)
Dear Honorable Senate Pro Tempore Atkins:
The City of Diamond Bar respectfully opposes AB 1886, which would expand the
definition of “public works” for the purpose of the payment of prevailing wages to also
include street sweeping maintenance done under contract.
If passed, this legislation would have a devastating effect on the budgets of cities that
contract for street sweeping services. Additionally, cities are already under
tremendous pressure to comply with numerous federal and state regulations related
to keeping our roads and streets clean - and would likely force cities to consider
reducing street sweeping schedules to keep costs down at the expense of well-
maintained roads and streets and their associated environmental impacts.
For these reasons, the City of Diamond Bar opposes AB 1886.
Sincerely,
Dan Fox, City Manager
