Temple Street, Suite 383 Los Angeles, CA 90012 RE: LASD Contract City Rate Increase Dear Chair Barger and Members of the Board of Supervisors: As cities throughout California cope with the harsh realities of an indefinite statewide shutdown, they are also dealing with unknown losses in revenues used to provide essential services such as law enforcement. With such uncertainty ahead, from budget cuts to economic losses to restrictive measures to contain the pandemic, it’s critical that Diamond Bar has the budgetary flexibility necessary to maintain public safety. In an effort to relieve our cities from the burden of increases in LASD contract rates, the City of Diamond Bar is hereby requesting action from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to defer any LASD rate increases, including the contract rate and the Liability Trust Fund surcharge for at least the next 24 months to allow contract cities time to recover from this unprecedented shutdown. To develop collaborative and amicable solutions to this challenge, the City of Diamond Bar is committed to working together with the Board, Sheriff Villanueva, and the Contract Cities Association. We strongly urge the Board and Department to consider Diamond Bar’s request for a temporary moratorium on rate increases as a sustainable path forward is developed. Please contact me at DFox@diamondbarca.gov or (909) 839-7011 with any questions. Sincerely, Dan Fox City Manager City of Diamond Bar Cc: California Contract Cities Association Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Sheriff Alex Villanueva & LASD Contract Law Bureau
