Re: Funding Threats to CDBG
Dear Representative Miller,
On behalf of the City of Diamond Bar, I would like to express our support for
the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and to voice
our opposition to funding reductions proposed for the Fiscal Year 2012
federal budget currently being deliberated.
The CDBG program is a vital resource to our community, providing funding
for projects and services that directly impact the lives of our low- and
moderate -income citizens.
For example, the City's allocation of CDBG funds went toward funding
senior programming at City facilities, issuing home improvement grants
and/or deferred loans to eligible low and moderate -income homeowners
for necessary home repairs to mitigate building and safety code
deficiencies and/or violations, completing curb ramp installations within
high -foot traffic areas throughout the city, and making ADA retrofit
improvements at community parks. A portion also went to the local YMCA
for its child care program and summer day camp.
Without assistance, many of the above mentioned programs would not
have been possible. The CDBG resources allow for the flexibility to fund a
myriad of activities, fill gaps where needed, and leverage and attract
additional resources to projects, all for the betterment of the entire
community.
We ask you to oppose any legislation that would eliminate or reduce
funding for CDGB in the 2011/12 fiscal year budget. We thank you in
advance for your support.
Sincerely,
l
Mayor Steve Tye
