Lyons Council Member Jack Tanaka Council Member July 14, 2014 :E 21810 Copley Drive ® Diamond Bar, CA 91765-4178 Honorable Lorena Gonzalez State Assembly, 80th District P.O. Box 942849, Room 5158 Sacramento, CA 94249-0080 Transmittal by fax: (916) 319-2180 Dear Assembly Member Gonzalez: (909) 839-7000 ® Fax (909) 861-3117 www.DiamondBarCA.gov The City of Diamond Bar respectfully opposes AB 1522, which would require employers of part time/seasonal employees, including cities, counties and special districts, to provide one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. As a public employer, we believe that leave policies are part of total compensation and benefits packages that should be determined by employers. By mandating new levels of sick leave, AB 1522 undermines local control and the ability for employers to decide appropriate compensation and benefits for their part time employees. Additionally, implementation of a new accrual system for part time employees will be extremely costly, requiring reconfiguring finance and human resource payroll systems across the public sector. For these reasons, the City of Diamond Bar is opposed to AB 1522. Sincerely, Carol A. Herrera Mayor CC: Assemblyman Curt Hagman -55th District City Council League of California Cities Joe A.
