Box 942849 Sacramento, CA 94249-0008 Via Fax: (916) 319-2108 Dear Assembly Member Cooley: The City of Diamond Bar respectfully supports AB 266, which provides a responsible framework for regulating marijuana distribution that upholds local control, squarely addresses public safety concerns, and includes important health and safety requirements. As a municipal government, we are on the front lines on this issue along with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and have to cope with the effects of the current chaotic regulatory structure for medical marijuana in the Steve Tye state. We applaud your effort to put a responsible framework in place that Mayor protects local control and addresses public safety issues. We believe local governments should have a prominent role in any framework for medical Nancy A. Lyons marijuana, including meaningful enforcement powers as described in AB 266. Mayor Pro Tem Carol Herrera We appreciate the work that went into developing this proposal, including input Council Member from law enforcement, city attorneys, and consultation with both jurisdictions that allow medical marijuana dispensaries, as well as those that have imposed Jimmy Lin bans such as the City of Diamond Bar, which is opposed to any law that Council Member compels the City to facilitate points of sale of marijuana—whether medicinal or recreational—within its boundaries. Jack Tanaka Council Member For these reasons, the City of Diamond Bar supports AB 266.
