HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 89-69RESOLUTION NO. 89-69 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DIAMOND BAR FAVORING EARLY CONSTRUCTION OF LIGHT RAIL AND COMMUTER RAIL FOR THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission is constructing a regional rail system for the Greater Los Angeles area; WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission will decide after March 1990 which of several competing light rail routes will be constructed next; WHEREAS, only one of these competing routes is located I within the San Gabriel Valley; WHEREAS, the Santa Fe Railway Company Right-of-way from Los Angeles to San Bernardino and the Southern Pacific Transportation Company Right-of-way in the San Gabriel Valley are both under consideration for use in the light rail and/or commuter rail service; 1 WHEREAS, there is both unified support and growing demand for light rail and commuter rail transit within the San Gabriel Valley; WHEREAS, the Air Quality Management Plan adopted by the South Coast Air Quality Management District and the Southern California Association of Governments calls for the construction and operation of light rail and commuter rail transit to reduce commuter traffic and achieve related air quality goals; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Diamond Bar strongly supports a comprehensive transportation system for the San Gabriel Valley, including early construction of the light rail line to Pasadena or a more easterly point, and early implementation of a commuter rail system that will compliment the light rail system; we further urge the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission to implement these components of this comprehensive transportation system at the earliest possible date.
