Geotechnical Consultants 3831 Arden Drive EI Monte, California 91731 (626)575-2856 • E-mail: TKEngineering@aol.com May 25, 2016 Mr. Poming Huang 23858 Chinook Place Diamond Bar, CA 91765 Subject: COMPACTION TEST RESULTS Swimming Pool Backfills 23858 Chinook Place Diamond Bar, California TKE Job No. 16-133CC Dear Mr. Huang: As requested, this report presents the results of laboratory and field density tests pertaining to the placement of compacted fill in the previous Swimming Pool area at the subject property. The approximate locations of compaction tests are plotted on Plate A-1 and the results of laboratory and field density tests are tabulated on Tables I and II, respectively. Prior to placing fill soils, the bottom of pool was punctured with three (3) 2.5 feet to 3 feet size holes for drainage purpose. The depth of pool varied from 3 to 9 feet. The fill was placed in thin lift (i.e. 8 to 10 inches), watered as necessary to near optimum moisture content, and compacted to at least 90% relative compaction. Compaction was achieved by a Whacker and water was provided through a water hose. Page 1 T.K. Engineering Corp. TKE Job No. 16-133CC May 25, 2016 Field and Laboratory Testing The approximate test locations are plotted on the Plate A-1. Compaction tests were performed at every 2 -foot vertical interval or less and were conducted in accordance with ASTM D 1556, sand -cone -test method. Laboratory maximum dry density and optimum moisture of the soil used as fill are determined in accordance with ASTM D 1557. Test results are tabulated on the Tables I and II, attached. It shall be noted that T.K. Engineering Corp. did not perform any test beyond the limit as shown on Plate A-1. Conclusions & Recommendation The approximate limit of compacted fill is shown on the attached Plate A-1. Test results indicated that the compaction is adequate at locations and elevations tested. For landscaping purpose, the top 12 to 14 inches backfill soils were not properly compacted. It shall be noted that the backfill area is currently 4 to 6 inches lower than the adjacent concrete slab. The scope of our work in this report was limited to perform compaction tests at the previous swimming pool backfills only. The adequacy of subsurface soils beneath the compacted fill blanket for structural support has not been studied by T. K. Engineering Corp. and it is beyond the scope of this report. Page 2 T.K.
