HomeMy WebLinkAboutRE_ Camera at Brea Canyon Cutoff and Fallow Field_ s_w corner (98)How much is the alternative camera? It would really be in the best interest to develop a replaceable cover for the camera lenses. This is happening all over the place. Good morning, I have an update for you regarding camera location #38 SB Brea Canyon Cut Off @ Diamond Canyon. We had a technician on site to replace this camera on 9/22. After just a few days, it appears that this camera was vandalized again. The last images captured are dated 9/26, and the lens appears to be blacked out (screenshot attached), which is consistent with the previous incidents of vandalism. Based on the history of work orders, it looks like this camera was replaced on 7/9/25, 8/19/25, and most recently on 9/22/25. Each time, we documented that the lens was covered with black paint. During the 8/19 replacement, our technician installed the equipment above the horizontal beam on the pole, but that did not prevent the next bout of vandalism that occurred between 9/22 and 9/26. Next Steps: Since we are coming up on a potential 4th replacement in less than 3 months at the Brea Canyon Cut Off @ Diamond Canyon location, I have a couple of ideas: * We could look at relocating this equipment to a nearby area. * Another option we have seen success with when it comes to avoiding vandalism is to upgrade from a standard LPR to a Long Range LPR. * Standard LPRs need to be mounted ~12-16 feet off the ground for best performance. * Mounting above the horizontal arm on a traffic pole is very close to the maximum recommended height * A Long Range LPR could be installed at or near the top of that traffic pole, which would make the equipment much harder to tamper with. I'm sorry for the bad news, but I did want to present these options for your consideration. I have also included your CSM, Matthew Nicholass, on this email thread so he is aware of the ongoing vandalism to camera #38. Please let me know if either of these options interests you, and we can proceed accordingly. Our Field Ops team has an open work order for this location. We have a site visit tentatively scheduled for 9/22. I am going to waive the replacement fee for this camera since you just had that LPR replaced in August. That replacement lens cover is an excellent idea. I will submit this feedback to our Product team for consideration; hopefully, a much more cost-effective solution can be achieved. I will be following the work order on my side and will be sure to reach out to you as soon as functionality has been restored to #38 SB Brea Canyon Cut Off @ Diamond Canyon. We are hoping flock will come up with some kind of replacement lens cover, as we have had at least five instances of painted-over cameras. ________________________________ From: Flock Safety Support <support@flocksafety.com> Sent: Thursday, September 11, 2025 6:44:03 AM To: rmclean@diamondbarca.gov <rmclean@diamondbarca.gov>; kdesforges@diamondbarca.gov <kdesforges@diamondbarca.gov> Subject: Camera at Brea Canyon Cutoff and Fallow Field, s/w corner **DO NOT open unknown links or any attachments without confirming with IS or the sender directly.** CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. We received a ticket yesterday that one of your cameras has been damaged, but I do not see which location it was. I did some digging, and I'm wondering if it is camera location #38 SB Brea Canyon Cut Off @ Diamond Canyon. Based on past support tickets, it does appear that this location has been vandalized multiple times, most recently in August. Please let me know if #38 has been damaged/vandalized again. If so, I want to loop in your CSM since we are looking at multiple instances of the same location being vandalized. I know these replacements are tedious and expensive, and I do apologize for the inconvenience.
