I just spoke with Superintendent Knowles at Pomona Unified School District, and he was able to provide some updated information. Starting yesterday afternoon, several Armstrong students began experiencing symptoms. Then this morning, many students called out of school sick or were otherwise sent home with symptoms after arriving. Superintendent Knowles estimates that about half of the school’s 211 students are out as of this time. He is not sure how many are currently ill versus how many may have decided to stay home or leave out of caution, but there is likely to be a significant number. PUSD has contacted Los Angeles County Department of Health to conduct contact tracing and the investigation is ongoing. There is speculation that it is a form of norovirus, but that has not been confirmed, and I would not recommend sharing that speculation at this time. LA County did not recommend that the school be temporarily closed and the District has dispatched cleaning crews and shared information with students and families about hand washing and other ways to prevent the spread of viruses. I will stay in touch with Mr. Knowles and provide updates as information becomes available. <http://www.diamondbarca.gov/> Ryan McLean | Assistant City Manager City of Diamond Bar | City Manager’s Office 21810 Copley Drive, Diamond Bar, CA 91765 t (909) 839-7016 | 909.839.7000 main | f 909.861.3117 RMcLean@diamondbarca.gov <mailto:RMcLean@diamondbarca.gov> | www.DiamondBarCA.gov <http://www.diamondbarca.gov/> Connect with Us...
