Location of Concern: San Gabriel Valley Industrial Corridor / Puente Hills Mall Area
Dear Councilmembers and Planning Officials,
As a resident of Diamond Bar located directly adjacent to the San Gabriel Valley industrial corridor, I am writing to formally express my opposition to the development of battery energy
storage facilities and large-scale data centers along this corridor.
I am particularly concerned about the potential for these types of facilities to be introduced through redevelopment projects in nearby industrial areas, including the Puente Hills Mall
site and other properties within the corridor that sit immediately adjacent to residential communities throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
Facilities of this type and scale are incompatible with areas that border established neighborhoods. Residents in communities such as Diamond Bar, Rowland Heights, Hacienda Heights,
and West Covina would inevitably bear the safety, environmental, and quality-of-life impacts associated with these projects.
My concerns include:
• Fire hazards and emergency response challenges associated with lithium-ion battery storage facilities
• Potential air quality and public health impacts in a region that already faces significant environmental burdens
• Noise, traffic, and infrastructure strain created by large-scale industrial energy and data facilities
• The cumulative impact of concentrating multiple large-scale facilities within the same geographic corridor
• The proximity of these projects to homes, schools, parks, and residential neighborhoods
While such projects may serve regional or commercial interests, they place disproportionate risks on surrounding communities that have little influence over land-use decisions made within
heavily industrial jurisdictions.
For these reasons, I respectfully urge city and regional decision-makers to reject proposals for battery energy storage facilities and large-scale data centers along the San Gabriel
Valley industrial corridor and to prioritize land uses that are compatible with surrounding residential communities.
Please include this message as a formal public comment in the record for any current or future planning, zoning, or environmental review processes related to these types of facilities.
I also request that any environmental review conducted pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act fully evaluate cumulative regional impacts and the proximity of these facilities
to surrounding residential communities.
Thank you for your attention to the concerns of residents in neighboring communities.
