The presentation, “Understanding the City
Budget”, takes place 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday,

City To Test Emergency Notification System
Testing of the City’s emergency notification system, Civic
Ready/Alert Sense, is scheduled to take place this month.
At approximately 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, a test alert will be sent to everyone
who is subscribed to receive emergency alerts from the City. Depending on the
subscriber’s preference, the alert may be received as an email, text or recorded
message. Texts will come from 38276, and emails will come from alerts@
civicready.com.
During a real emergency, the alerts will provide subscribers with important
instructions and updates ranging from road closures to evacuation orders.
Examples of when the City will send out emergency notifications are wildfires,
earthquakes, severe weather, and incidents that require immediate public safety
action.

Back-To-School Safety Reminders
With school back in session this month, pedestrians and drivers alike are reminded that preventing
accidents is a shared responsibility. Here are a few tips to help ensure a safe travel for students on
their way to and from school:
Behind the Wheel
Lower your speed and remain alert for pedestrians – 25 mph is the maximum speed when
children are present.
Watch for and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and at all intersections –
they have the right-of-way at these locations.
If a vehicle stops in front of you, slow down and practice patience – it may have stopped
for pedestrians.
Never pass a school bus while it is stopped with flashing red lights and stop sign out – children
are either boarding or getting off. Violations carry a fine and add points to your driving record.
On Foot
Cross the street only at signalized or marked crosswalks, and check for oncoming traffic in all
directions before stepping off the curb.
Make eye contact with drivers to make sure they can see you before crossing in front of them.
Eliminate opportunities for distraction such as the use of cell phone, hand-held games, or
music devices.
Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways or parking lots.
The second of two annual deadlines for Diamond Bar
residents to honor an immediate family member serving
on active duty in the United States military through the
City’s Armed Forces Banner Program is coming up.
Monday, Sept. 1 is the cutoff date to submit a request
to have a banner personalized with a loved one’s name
and military branch. Banner installations will occur in
November. Applications received after this date will be
part of the next round of requests, with banners going up
in May 2026.
Complete participation requirements and an online
application form are available online at
www.diamondbarca.gov/armedforces or by
calling the City’s Parks and Recreation Department at
909-839-7073.
The same online form can be used to inform the City
when an honoree is no longer on active service. Retired
banners are taken down at the same time new banners
are hung, and honorees or their family member(s) can
choose to pick it up or have it presented to them during
the City’s Veterans Recognition ceremony in November.

With meteorologists predicting hot, dry
conditions through September, residents
are reminded that Walnut Valley
Water District Stage 2 Water Shortage
restrictions remain in effect. These
mandatory conservation measures,
implemented in January 2022, are
designed to reduce district-wide water
demand by 20 percent.
Water restrictions in place include:
Limiting lawn and landscape watering to no
more than three days per week either before
8 a.m. or after 5 p.m., with watering sessions
limited to 15 minutes. Additionally, watering is
not allowed during or 48 hours after rain.
Watering any landscaped area that causes
excessive water flow or runoff onto a sidewalk
or street is prohibited.
Washing down sidewalks, walkways,
driveways, patios or other paved areas is
prohibited.
Water leaks, breaks or malfunctions must be
fixed within 72 hours of notice by the water
district.
Vehicle washing at home is allowed only with
a shut-off nozzle or other water-saving device
attached to the hose.
All water fountains and decorative water
features must use recirculating water systems.
For the complete list of restrictions, visit
https://walnutvalleywater.gov/sustainability/
drought-resources.
Mosquito Source Reduction Tips
Mosquitos thrive in hot weather,
making them more likely to bite
and potentially transmit serious
West Nile virus, Zika, Dengue,
and other mosquito-transmitted
illnesses.
To reduce the likelihood or
mosquitoes breeding around your
home, the Greater Los Angeles Vector Control District (GLACVCD) recommends taking the
following measures:
Eliminating standing water in clogged rain gutters, rain barrels, discarded tires, buckets,
watering troughs or anything that holds water for over a week.
Ensuring swimming pools, spas, and ponds are properly maintained.
Changing the water in pet dishes, bird baths and other small containers weekly.
Requesting free mosquitofish from GLACVCD for placement in your property’s
ornamental ponds.
Reporting neglected (green) swimming pools in your neighborhood to GLACVCD.
If you are seeing an increase in mosquito activity on your property or in your
neighborhood and need help locating potential breeding sources, you can submit a
service request to GLACVD by visiting www.glamosquito.org or calling 562-944-9656.
