Nationally Recognized Days Promotion Calendar Registration Now Open for Breakfast with the Bunny Diamond Bar ConnectionFebruary 2026 3 Coyote breeding season is underway, with mating occurring through February and pups expected in March and April. During this time, coyotes become more vocal, active, and protective, which can increase the likelihood of encounters with residents and pets. To minimize the potential for conflicts during breeding season, residents are asked to take the following steps:  Never intentionally feed or provide water to coyotes, as this eliminates their natural fear of people and can lead to aggressive behavior. Feeding wildlife, including birds and squirrels, should also be avoided as it attracts coyotes.  Do not leave pets outside at night, particularly at dawn and dusk when coyotes are most active,  Keep dogs on short leashes during walks and avoid areas with dense vegetation.  Install motion-sensitive lighting around the home, especially near fruit trees or outdoor animal areas, and trim ground- level shrubbery to reduce hiding places.  If approached or followed by a coyote, do not turn your back or run. Instead, scare it away by waving your arms in the air and yelling loudly and directly at the coyote. If this fails, throw rocks in its direction. Simply spotting coyotes is not a cause for concern. However, individuals should contact the Inland Valley Humane Society (IVHS) & S.P.C.A. at 909-623-9777 if they encounter a coyote or any other wild animal that is exhibiting aggressive or unusual behavior or appears sick. For additional information and safety tips, visit https://wildlife.ca.gov/hwc/coyote.
