Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Credit Did you know you could save 5 to 30 percent on your energy bill by making efficiency upgrades identified in your home energy audit. A home energy audit helps pinpoint where your house is losing energy and what you can do to save money. You can find more information on the Home Energy Tax Credits on the IRS website at https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/home-energy-tax-credits. Here are a few tips to save energy this winter season: • Use sunlight to your advantage. During daylight hours, switch off artificial lights and use windows and skylights to brighten your home. • Seal ducts. Air loss through ducts can lead to high electricity costs, accounting for nearly 30 percent of a heating system’s energy consumption. Sealing and insulating ducts can go a long way toward lowering your electricity bills. • Caulk air leaks. Using low-cost caulk to seal cracks and openings in your home keeps warm air in. • Install and set a programmable thermostat. Save an estimated 10 percent per year on heating costs and cooling costs. 4 Used Oil Recycling Help keep our waterways clean and healthy! Motor oil poured onto the ground, into storm drains, or tossed into trash cans (even in a sealed container) can contaminate and pollute the soil, groundwater, streams, and rivers. When you take your used oil to a certified center for recycling, you are protecting the environment and conserving valuable resources. If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, consider taking advantage of the City’s three drop off locations for used oil and filters: • Autozone 303 S Diamond Bar Blvd. Mon-Sun. 8 a.m.-9 p.m. (909) 396-4682 • Firestone Tires 1150 S.
