January 2026 2 Service Reminder Trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day due to the holiday. To allow waste collection employees time to observe the holiday with their families, trash and recycling service will be delayed by one day. If your regular collection day is Thursday or Friday, set your carts out one day later than usual. 3 Curbside Live Holiday Tree Collection Valley Vista Services (VVS) and Waste Management (WM) will once again be collecting and recycling all live holiday trees set out for collection now through the second Sunday in January. To take advantage of this free service, simply remove the stand, ornaments, and decorations (including tinsel) and place your tree curbside next to your carts or in your common bin location before 6 a.m. on your regularly scheduled collection day. Trees taller than seven feet must be cut in half. 4 Used Oil Filter Exchange Event Residents who change their vehicle’s oil at home can take advantage of a free used-oil filter exchange event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at AutoZone, 303 S. Diamond Bar Boulevard. Each household is eligible to receive as many as two replacement oil filters, with a maximum value of $15 per filter. Participants also may receive a free used-oil recycling kit that includes an oil container and funnel. Used Oil and Filter Year-Round Disposal Options Motor oil and filters left in the environment or tossed into trash cans, even in sealed containers, can contaminate and pollute soil, groundwater, streams and rivers. Climate Change is Hitting Our Wallets — Here’s What You Can Do Climate change is not just an environmental issue — it is increasingly a financial one for everyday households. Recent research shows that climate impacts are already adding hundreds of dollars a year to household budgets across the United States — and the burden is growing. A recent study by researchers at UCLA and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, published by the National Bureau of Economic Research, estimates that climate change currently costs U.S. households an average of $400 to $900 a year, with the highest-impact areas paying as much as $1,300 more each year. These added costs come from higher insurance premiums, increased energy and housing costs, and flood and weather damage, according to Investopedia. 7 What can residents do? While climate change is a large-scale issue, individuals and communities can take steps to reduce risk and manage costs: o Prepare your home: improve insulation, install storm-resistant features and take steps to reduce energy use. o Stay informed and engaged: support local and state efforts that invest in climate adaptation and resilience projects, such as improved flood control or wildfire mitigation. o Reduce emissions where you can: simple actions such as reducing energy use, choosing energy-efficient appliances and supporting clean transportation options help contribute to broader climate solutions. LA County HHW and E-Waste Round Up The next household hazardous and electronic waste (HHW/e-waste) collection event in Diamond Bar is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, rain or shine, in the Gateway Corporate Center at the 1300 block of Bridge Gate Drive. If you are planning to participate, there are several safety precautions in place: o Remain in your vehicle. 8 o Los Angeles County event staff will only remove household hazardous and electronic waste from your vehicle trunk or pickup bed. o Have your items ready in a box/disposable container. For more information about acceptable items visit the County’s website or contact 888-253-2652.
