Trees must be cut into lengths no longer than 6 ft. No flocked trees. After this free seasonal service has ended, holiday trees and other foliage must be cut down to fit into the standard 96-gallon green waste container (with the lid closed). Trees not collected within the time frame can be called in as a bulky item pickup and will count toward your four free pickups per year. Holiday Tree Recycling Valley Vista Services will collect and recycle holiday trees placed curbside on your regularly scheduled collection day from December 26, 2025 through the second week of January FREE. Please follow these guidelines in preparation for recycling your trees. National Recycling Day is November 15th, a perfect time to refresh recycling habits. Make sure recyclables like paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum cans, and certain plastics are empty, clean, and dry before placing them loose in the blue cart - never in plastic bags. Proper sorting helps prevent contamination and increases the chances of materials being successfully recycled into new products. Right Cart, Right Start Never throw away lithium-ion batteries - they are a major fire risk! Think Before You Toss: Don’t Trash That Battery; Protect Your Home & Community! Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) includes items with toxic, corrosive, or flammable ingredients. Improper disposal can cause trash truck fires and environmental harm. Proper Disposal Options: Valley Vista Services offers residents two FREE household hazardous waste pickups per year, including batteries and fluorescent bulbs. To schedule a pickup, call our Customer Service Department at (800) 442-6454. Residents can also drop off batteries and fluorescent bulbs at Ken’s Ace Hardware (303 S. Diamond Bar Blvd). Materials are self-serve and replenished regularly. There are no limits on how much you can take, but please take only what you need. Bring your own gloves, shovel, and containers, as staff are not available to assist. Tips: Compost enriches soil, and mulch helps retain moisture, regulate temperatures, and suppress weeds. Donate what you can: Got unopened cans or boxes? Drop them at your local food pantry - your “extra” could be someone else’s holiday dinner.
