Good morning PUSD Team,
As the school year is in full swing, I wanted to reach out again to remind you of a free
educational resource offered through the City of Diamond Bar. The City renewed its
contract with the Discovery Cube of Orange County to provide environmental education
programs open to 3rd through 6th grade Diamond Bar students. Attached is a flyer for the
program. Please note that the City of Diamond Bar does not currently cover 1st and 2nd-
grade students.
Discovery Cube is a nonprofit organization that inspires and educates young minds through
science-based programs. Our partnership with Discovery Cube Orange County includes a
comprehensive three-part program:
• In-School Assembly: Engaging presentations at Diamond Bar schools.
• Take-Home activity: Interactive and educational activities for students at home. This
includes a discount for students who attend Discovery Cube with their families
separately from a school trip.
• Field Trip: A visit to the Discovery Cube in Santa Ana, featuring several unique
educational exhibits. At the Santa Ana facility, students will experience exhibits such as
the “Organics Waste Lab,” “Race to Recycle,” and “Discovery Market.” These exhibits
teach crucial waste management practices, including composting, proper recycling,
and sustainable shopping habits. The field trip includes a $750 reimbursement stipend
per bus for transportation costs.
If you have any questions about the program, please contact me using the contact
information below. To schedule an assembly and/or field trip, please use the online portal at:
https://www.discoverycube.org/orange-county/diamond-bar/. At the completion of the
field trip, you may email bus invoices to groupsales@discoverycube.org, and a
reimbursement check of up to $750 per bus will be issued.
I hope you take advantage of this great resource. It is on a first-come, first-served basis, so
please schedule early!
Best regards,
2

Dear Mr. Darren Knowles,
My name is Tara Reyes, and I am a Management Analyst with the City of Diamond Bar’s
Environmental Services Team. I am writing to inform you about the City’s existing partnership with
Discovery Cube to offer free environmental education programs to grades 3-6 within Diamond Bar
schools.
Discovery Cube is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring and educating young minds
through science-based programs. We are now offering this program to students in 3rd through 6th
grades. Our partnership with Discovery Cube Orange County includes a comprehensive three-part
program:
• In-School Assembly: Engaging presentations at Diamond Bar schools.
• Take-Home Activity: Interactive and educational activities for students to do at home. This
includes a discount for the student to attend Discovery Cube with their family separately from
a school trip.
• Field Trip: A visit to the Discovery Cube in Santa Ana, featuring several unique educational
exhibits. At the Santa Ana facility, students will experience exhibits such as the “Organics
Waste Lab,” “Race to Recycle,” and “Discovery Market.” These exhibits teach crucial waste
management practices, including composting, proper recycling, and sustainable shopping
habits. The field trip includes a $200 stipend to assist with transportation costs.
To boost engagement, the City is proactively reaching out to schools to generate interest and assist
principals and teachers with excursion planning this calendar year.
In addition to the Discovery Cube program, the City offers other environmental programs for schools:
4
• Recycling Receptacle Program: Schools can apply for free recycling receptacles to improve
recycling efforts on campus.
• Arbor Day Poster Contest: Held every March, this contest encourages students to express their
creative talents on the Arbor Day theme for the year.
• Earth Day Poster Contest: Starting in 2025, this contest will invite students, groups, or classes to
submit academic and research-based posters. These posters should describe a current
environmental problem and propose potential solutions that the public can engage in, or that
businesses and local governments can implement. The posters will be displayed at our Earth
Day event to educate and inspire the community.
Attached please find a memorandum distributed to City Manager Daniel Fox summarizing the City’s
Discovery Cube Program. The City’s Environmental Services team would like to schedule a meeting
to provide more information about these programs and discuss how they can benefit your school.
We are also happy to assist with promoting these programs to schools in your district or with any other
refuse, recycling, or organics programs you may have.
I can be reached by phone at (909) 839-7015 or by email at treyes@diamondbarca.gov.
Thank you, and we look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Tara Reyes | Management Analyst
