Outreach Activities:
In September of 2023, Abound Food Care focused our efforts on coordinating outreach to the
identified non-participating Tier 1 and Tier 2 generators. This included virtual touchpoints
including email and phone calls that included information on how to begin their food donation
efforts. These touchpoints were as follows:
1. We reached out to Matthew at Smart & Final to see if he could provide us with their
pounds for the months of May, June, July, and August. He apologized for not getting
these to us sooner, but he has been out for a while. We also asked him if he was able to
get a copy of their agreement onsite as inspections will be coming up before the end of
the year. He let us know he will be sending us the pounds for the months we are missing
and will be sure to have their agreement onsite. We will follow up with him regarding
their agreement when we call to schedule their inspection.
2. After speaking with Daryl at Pomona Unified School District we found out they donate
out of their warehouse. He let us know legal is working on how it is supposed to work
with each individual school. He said they do donate and track their pounds as well. We
let him know to make sure he also has their agreement onsite with the food recovery
organization they donate to. We also let him know that some of the other school
districts we work with have one or two centralized locations set and that is where each
school will take their excess food and then that is where the food that is donated is
picked up instead of having a pickup at each individual school. He asked that we email
him again, so he has our contact information if he has any questions regarding school
site pickups. We sent him an email and let him know to reach out if he had any
questions or needed any assistance.
3. We tried to follow up with Wyatt over at Chilis regarding the information we sent him
on the requirements of SB1383 to see if he had a chance to look it over. He was not in,
but we spoke with the manager Kristin, and she said they did go over the email but we
would need to speak with Vanity who is the general manager regarding this but she was
not there. We will continue to reach out and connect with Vanity.
We will continue our outreach to the non-participating Tier 1 and Tier 2 generators and
continue to offer our support in getting them in compliance with the requirements of SB1383.
We will be sending out the letters with the educational trifold to the Tier 1 and Tier 2
generators in the first week of October. We will follow up with them to see if they received the
letter and if they have any questions regarding the requirements of SB1383.

We will begin to reach out to the Tier 1 generators in October to schedule their annual
inspections to verify they are in a program and have the documents they need onsite to be in
compliance with SB1383.
