Senate Bill 1383 •Law aims to divert organic waste from landfills by recycling into renewable resources. •Organic waste in landfills emit greenhouse gas like methane. •Reduce organic waste disposal 75% by 2025. •Recover 20% of edible food that would have been sent to landfills by 2025. Organic Waste Fuel Compost Electricity Senate Bill (SB) 1383 Organics Recycling SB 1383: Multifamily complexes are required to provide organic waste collection services for: ⚬Employees ⚬Tenants •They must supply and allow access to an adequate number, size, and location of containers with the correct labels or container colors. •They must also: ⚬Annually educate employees and tenants on how to properly sort organic waste into the correct bins ⚬Provide information to new tenants within 14 days of occupation of the premises Multifamily Organics Recycling What does VVS do to help our customers implement ORGANICS? In less than a year, Valley Vista Services will have its own Organic's processing facility where we will source separate green-waste from food-waste. ⚬The plan is to create the slurry/mash here at our facility and send it straight to the Wastewater Treatment facility. There it will go through an anaerobic digester to be transformed into renewable resources. Frequently Asked Questions Q: Do I have to use compostable bags? •No, currently you can use any clear/transparent plastic bags you have available, the bag gets separated from the food waste during processing. Q: Where can I get clear/transparent or compostable bags if I want them? •You can get clear/transparent or compostable bags in most big box stores such as Target, Walmart, Costco and online through Amazon. Q: The food pail is too small, is it required for me to use it? •No, the food pail was provided by Valley Vista to help our customers get started with organics recycling. You can use any trash can you prefer to collect the organic waste. Q: How can I prevent my food waste container from smelling? •As with your regular trash, the best way to keep your kitchen from smelling is to frequently take out your trash before it begins to smell and frequently washing out your container.
