Here are updated notes on expected fire weather conditions and the outlook into early next week:
TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY:
* Winds:
* Afternoon and early evening southwest to west gusts of 20-30 mph portions of the mountains and interior, primarily Los Angeles County, with isolated gusts to 40 mph around Lake Palmdale
* Humidity:
* Min humidities 10-25 percent warmest valleys into the mountains and interior
* Poor overnight recoveries tonight (Max RH 20-30% mountains and interior); some improvement starting Friday night
* Temperatures:
* Hot temperatures 90s to 106 valleys and interior
* Large vertical plume growth potential in any new fire starts with mixing heights 10-15 kft mountains and Antelope Valley
* Monsoon Moisture:
* Bulk of the moisture east of the area
* Afternoon cumulus development LA County mountains, possibly into Ventura Co mountains
* Slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms with associated dry lightning eastern San Gabriels Friday
* Assessment:
* Elevated fire weather conditions portions of the LA County mountains and Antelope Valley with active wildfires and grass fires possible
* Moderate heat risk valleys into the interioror for those who are sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration
OUTLOOK FOR SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY:
* Minimum humidities 15-30 percent warmest valleys to the interior.
* Some cooling on Tuesday otherwise continued hot valleys into the interior with highs 90s to low 100s
* Afternoon mountain cumulus development; uncertainty at this time with any associated thunderstorm development eastern LA Co mountains
* Large vertical plume growth potential in any new fire starts with mixing heights of 10-15 kft mountains into the interior
* Moderate heat risk Sunday from valleys into the interior for those who are sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration
