Protect your personal items
It’s fun to go shopping, getting all the gifts for the family during the holiday season. But it can quickly turn into a heartbreaking situation when someone steals your personal items
before you can get home to wrap those gifts.
To many times we become distracted and are not paying attention to what is going on around us. We have picked up some lazy habits as we walk to our cars distracted by our cellphones.
This is exactly what the criminals are looking for.
Most of the time people will put their purses or bags in the passenger seat of the car while they load all their newly bought gifts into the car. This is the moment when a suspect will
walk over to your passenger door, open it, and steal your purse from the passenger seat. Once in hand, the criminal will run to an awaiting car which will speed off with your stuff.
Another situation which I have seen several times is leaving a purse or bag in the shopping cart while you load your gifts into the car. The criminal may walk or drive up to your cart
while your back is turned. They will grab the bag and flee before you have a chance to know what’s going on.
So, what can we do. Pay attention to your surroundings. Look to see if anyone is watching what you are doing. If you feel someone is watching you, just continue shopping or walking
until the suspicious person has moved on. They are waiting for you to leave your bag unattended, so make sure to stay near your purse so they will not have a moment to steal it. If
they are not leaving, contact a store employee and ask them to stand by while you load your items or call the Sheriff’s department to report the suspicious activity.
When you get to your car make sure you have your keys ready in hand. Place your purse in the car but lock it while you load your gifts. Once your done loading, look around and once
you have deemed it safe, unlock and enter your vehicle.
By taking these simple precautions, you will reduce the opportunity of becoming a victim during this holiday season. So go out shopping with confidence and have a great Holiday season.
