As of Aug 11, 2022, the County of Los Angeles is currently in the Medium COVID-19 Community Level as determined by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This extension implements the CDC recommendation that all persons on public ground transportation and in indoor transportation hubs wear a well-fitting mask. The Omicron variant BA.5 has become the dominant variant in the United States and California. Early studies indicate that BA.5 has an increased ability to escape immunity, including from prior infections, potentially leading to increased transmission. This masking requirement is being continued to help reduce ongoing local transmission of COVID-19 as much as possible given the current High COVID-19 Transmission Level in Los Angeles County. Masking in indoor public spaces is a mitigation strategy that also protects against workforce disruptions. Workers who interact with other workers and the public can have multiple potential exposures per shift, increasing their risk for infection. Infected workers are required to be excluded from work for at least 5 days per Cal OSHA COVID-19 Prevention Emergency Temporary Standards. Public Health continues to require that public transportation providers and transportation hubs within Los Angeles County take the following actions: * Post and use conspicuous signage within the transportation terminal and at each gate, if applicable, which communicates to the traveling public that all persons two years of age or older must wear a mask while indoors at the terminal and while on public transportation (trains, buses, taxis, airport shuttles, and ride-shares). * Instruct public transportation staff and other workers within the indoor portions of terminals and on public transit to wear their masks while working indoors or inside a vehicle. * Instruct public transportation and transportation hub employees and other workers to follow the masking requirements in both public and non-public facing indoor portions of public transportation terminals. Los Angeles County Public Health has retained this requirement as transportation hubs and public transit remain settings with a high risk of transmission and are among sites with the largest COVID-19 worksite outbreaks within the County. Public Health will re-evaluate the masking requirement should COVID-19 Transmission be reduced to the Moderate Level across the County, or thirty (30) days have passed, whichever comes first. Thank you for your assistance in helping the County protect the health of residents, workers, and visitors. Please contact Public Health at (877) 397-3393 with any questions. Thank you for your ongoing efforts to protect the health and well-being of Los Angeles County residents.
