If you are concerned about immigration status when pulled over. Let me re assure you, we are not in the business of immigration. Actually, I my 23 years of service with the Los Angeles
County Sheriffâs Department, I have never asked anyone about their immigration status. The Los Angeles County Department Policy 05-09/271.00 states, âDepartment members shall not initiate
police action with the objective of discovering the individualâs immigration status.â It goes on to further say that âdepartment members shall not inquire about and individuals immigration
statusâ and that we will not forward any information to the US Immigration department. However, if you are an unlicensed driver, you might get a ticket for driving without a license
(violation 12500 cvc) which is now an infraction.

THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFFâS DEPARTMENT (LASD) POLICY REGARDING IMMIGRATION INQUIRIES AND NOTIFICATION
This policy is intended to reassure immigrant communities that there is no need to fear contact with the Sheriffâs Department. Policy Section 05-09/271.00 âImmigration Inquires and
Notifications.â
· Department members shall investigate criminal activity without regard for an individualâs legal status.
· Department members shall not initiate police action with the objective of discovering the individualâs immigration status.
· Deputies shall not arrest an individual on suspicion of violating a federal immigration law relating to illegal entry, being unlawfully present, or overstaying a visa.
· Department members shall not inquire about an individualâs immigration status.
· If a victimâs, witnessâ or offenderâs immigration status is discovered during an investigation, deputies shall not forward that information to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement
(ICE).
· Department members shall not use an immigration authority as an interpreter.
