Hi Floyd The issue is that booster Club spending is restricted to only volunteers, reserves, and explorers and booster club members. The booster club gets audited fir this. So the club cannot pay for the dinners of spouses or non volunteer members. Dan gave me the details on this policy. Would they have to pay to come to the dinner? Since they are not spouses, but friends. Keeping in mind that they are helping to pull in thousands of dollars per event, I do understand that we have bylaws! But do we have any amendments that would justify this unprecedented situation that we’re in now? of people working in this manner to help raise money for the booster club. Please advise! Maybe at this Fall's golf tournament, we can specifically advertise the Opportunity Board (50/50) funds to be used for April 2024's Volunteer Dinner guests. They are asking if spouses must be charged to attend the dinner since there was so much money raised during 2022. The majority of these questions are coming from most of the newly assigned volunteers who are also associated with the Together Against Crime Foundation. My assumption is they are asking because they were responsible for a good number of the donations we received last year and during the golf tournament. I certainly understand why they are asking the question. Because the Booster Club funds are supposed to be for a Volunteers, Explorers, and Reserve Deputies, I’m sure there would be an issue with allowing spouses to attend for free. Just brainstorming here, but maybe we could allow spouses to attend at a reduced rate. Maybe $10 or $20 each instead of $35? Anyhow, because I’ve been approached on many occasions regarding this, I feel compelled to at least send this out to the board members for a vote. So, after consideration, I’d like to request the Booster Club approve to allow spouses to attend the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at a reduced rate. I think $15 each for spouses is a fair number. Please let me know what the board thinks so I can start collecting from the volunteers who want to bring their spouses. I agree further that each Volunteer should be allowed to bring a guest at a reduced rate.....but our mission guidelines clearly restrict our use of the funds, even if we had a million dollars in the bank. I would still like to proceed with your recommendation to the Board that the guest be charged $15 but, I personally will cover the remaining $20 difference to make up the actual cost of their dinner. Maybe in the next year when we get a donation or two, we can ask the donor to specifically earmark it for covering the costs of Volunteer Guests for the Annual Appreciation Dinner. This way we will continue being good stewards of the funds entrusted to us. I make this donation not out of filling a Club need, but out of gratitude for the time and efforts of so many to get the Boosters where we are today..... in a position to help the Volunteers that serve our community for many years to come!
