In my 22 years in law enforcement, the hardest call I have ever responded to involved a baby falling into a swimming pool. My heart raced as I sped to the location knowing I was going
to be the first one there. My training kicked in as soon as I put my squad car in park and noticed a group of individuals kneeling, trying to revive a lifeless child’s body. It’s
a scene that is forever etched in my mind, and one that comes back to me frequently. And although this drowning-related call is unforgettable because it was the first of its kind for
me, I have unfortunately responded to several more like it since. That’s why this month, I’m sharing a layered approach you can take to keep your children safe in and around home swimming
pools and hot tubs.
