Greetings.
Here are updated notes on expected fire weather conditions this weekend and the outlook early next week.
***ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL CONDITIONS THROUGH THIS EVENING OVER MOUNTAINS, DESERTS, AND INTERIOR VALLEYS DUE TO GUSTY WEST TO NORTH WINDS, VERY WARM TEMPERATURES, AND VERY LOW HUMIDITIES***
TODAY:
* Winds: West to North Gusts 25-35 mph across interior.
* Winds strongest over I-5 corridor, Ventura mountains, and Antelope Valley
* Isolated gusts 35-45 mph across western Santa Ynez mountains/foothills this evening
* Humidity: Minimums 5-12% mountains, deserts, and interior valleys.
* Humidity levels 15-35% Western Santa Ynez Range/foothills this evening and Saturday evening.
* Poor overnight recoveries 15-25% mountains and interior valley hills
* Temperatures: Highs 95-105 most valleys, lower mountains, and deserts
* Overnight lows: 60-70 common, except 70-78 common foothills and deserts.
* High mixing heights 10,000-15,000 feet mountains & interior valleys.
* Coastal sections: Highs 72-85. Persistent marine layer influence
* Fuels:
* Live fuels are at or near critical, generally 55-70%.
* 10hr dead fuels at critical, generally 3-7% with little change expected into next week.
* Assessment:
* Elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions through this evening across mountains, deserts, interior valleys, and western Santa Ynez mountains/foothills
* Any new fire starts likely will result in rapid fire spread
OUTLOOK (SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY):
* Slight improvement but still warm and dry over mountains and interior valleys.
* Winds shift to more seasonal southwest to northwest onshore direction, less north winds and Sundowners.
* Elevated fire weather conditions over the mountains and interior valleys.
* Potential return of monsoon moisture to southern mountains/deserts by Monday/Tuesday - 20% chance of afternoon/evening thunderstorms each day for eastern San Gabriels and eastern
Antelope Valley
* 10% chance of storm activity for night/morning hours
