Greetings.
The National Weather Service in Oxnard will be NOT leading a local fire weather coordination call today, but we wanted to raise to your awareness the increasing chances of thunderstorms
for the end of the week.
SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY: THUNDERSTORMS
Southeast flow aloft will bring a threat of monsoonal showers and thunderstorms.
* 20-30% chance over mountains and deserts, closest to LA County
* 10-20% chance over rest of the area, including coastal areas
* Small chance of thunderstorms forming over San Gabriel Mountains as early as Friday.
* Threat of cloud-to-ground lightning and brief heavy downpours
* Fire starts and beach closures are possible.
* Dry lightning threat however is minimal
* Rainfall amounts and rates will be highly variable, and are mostly unknown at this time.
* Increasing humidities (generally well above 20%)
* Still warm conditions (highs most unchanged from today)
* Onshore wind gusts 25-35 mph will continue over interior areas.
MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY: HURRICANE SWELL
South to southeast swells from Hurricane Frank off of Baja will generate near high surf
* Surf of 4-8 feet common over beaches with any south exposure.
* Strong and dangerous rip currents are likely.
