HomeMy WebLinkAboutHomeless Encampment Reports.msgTeam-
There have been a variety of recent reports of different types of encampments or camping within the City. I’m going to summarize the locations and provide a quick summary in case you
get any calls. Please let me know if you have any additional updates.
1. Diamond Bar Blvd south of Sunset Crossing – Several reports of camping on the freeway. The reports have been forwarded to Caltrans, which is responsible for the freeway and associated
vegetative area the encampment is located at. Jorge and Debbie have been in communication with Caltrans, so this is in progress but no ETA to completion. LAHSA LA HOP request was
submitted.
2. Washington Street by Mini Park – Individual residing in a dark color Ford Pickup with camper shell. The vehicle is on public street, and vehicle has personal items on top of the
hood/tailgate, as well as on the ground. Sheriff is aware, and LA HOP request was submitted.
3. Steep Canyon / Diamond Bar Blvd – Reported that individuals either reside in that area, or in the hillside above closer to Gold Rush. The HOA above has been made aware of the situation,
and Sheriff special teams has attempted to make contact several times but unable verify if an active encampment. PW has worked with County to ensure fence/gate by Steep Canyon stairs
are locked, but individuals keep breaking lock.
4. Parking at City facilities – Receive infrequent reports of vehicles at City facilities. Please keep a log of any interactions with individuals suspected of encamping overnight. There
is one person in particular that has made threatening remarks to staff, and I would like to provide that to City Attorney should we need to secure a restraining order.
5. Sunset Crossing terminus by YMCA – Reported this morning via social media. Alleged reports of personal belongings, litter and debris by the fenced area that goes into the flood control
channel where Sunset Crossing terminates. PW staff have previously reported issues to City of Industry, where encampments have been known to be located on the other city of Diamond
Bar boundary. Sharing in case you have seen or received reports in that area.
Thanks,
Anthony
