....HIGH WIND WATCH IS IN EFFECT 10 PM TUESDAY TO 7 PM WEDNESDAY FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND SOME COASTS/VALLEYS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES...
THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON
* Winds: NW-NE 8-15 mph. Gusts to 25 mph mountains.
* Moderate Santa Ana with 15-25 mph and gusts to 40 mph possible Tuesday afternoon and evening.
* Humidity: 15-25% away from the coast, lowest coastal valleys.
* May dip to 10-20% Tuesday afternoon to evening.
* Temperatures: Warming trend through the period with mid 60s to mid 70s common by Tuesday.
* Assessment: Elevated to brief critical conditions possible late Tuesday. Fine fuels may dry out ahead of potential first strong Santa Ana of the season
TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY:
* Winds: Los Angeles and Ventura counties: coasts/valleys: N-NE peak wind gusts 40-60 mph, mountains: peak wind gusts 55-75 mph.
* San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties valleys/foothills: N-NE peak wind gusts 20-40 mph, mountains: peak wind gusts 30-50 mph (including Montecito Hills)
* High confidence on significant winds Tuesday Night through Wednesday.
* Some uncertainty with exact timing remains. Offshore winds should strengthen and become more widespread Tuesday afternoon and evening.
* Northeast gusts 20-30 mph possible for Avalon Harbor.
* Peak LAX-DAG gradient -5 to -7 millibars with a 20 percent chance of peaking closer to -8.
* Peak LAX-BFL gradient -3 to -5 millibars
* Inside slider forced. Moderate to strong upper level support.
* Humidity: Mins 15-30% Tuesday, 8-15% Wednesday.
* Poor overnight recoveries (max 15-30% in windier locations) Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
* Temperatures: Highs 65-75.
* Assessment:
* High confidence in 6+ hours of Red Flag weather conditions over most of LA and Ventura Counties on Wednesday.
* Based on local fire weather experts, fuels remain receptive for rapid fire growth, especially when combined with the exceptionally strong winds anticipated with this event
* Elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions expected to foothills/mountains prone to northeast winds within Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties
* Wind damage likely, with downed trees and power lines leading to power outages.
OUTLOOK: MODERATE Santa Ana event possible next weekend. No rain expected through at least next week.
