Greetings.
The National Weather Service in Oxnard will be NOT leading a local fire weather coordination call today, but we wanted to raise to your awareness the increasing chances of thunderstorms
for the end of the week.
THROUGH MONDAY: THUNDERSTORMS
Southeast flow aloft will bring a threat of monsoonal showers and thunderstorms.
* 20-40% chance of thunderstorms over mountains and deserts/interior valleys (all 4 counties)
* Highest chances over LA and Ventura Counties
* Highest chances afternoon and evening hours
* Saturday and Sunday most favorable
* 10-20% chance of thunderstorms over coastal and valley areas (all 4 counties)
* Highest chances overnight into morning hours
* Highest most widespread chances Saturday night through Sunday
* Rainfall Details
* Amounts and rates will be highly variable.
* Potential for brief heavy downpours with isolated rates of 0.50-0.75 inches per hour
* Still warm with increasing humidities
* Unusually muggy conditions, especially Sunday.
* High temperatures 85-95 common, warm overnight lows 65-75 common especially Sunday morning.
* Minimum humidities generally above 25% (localized 15-25% interior Sat and Mon).
* Wind: Weaker than usual south to west winds.
* Potential for brief and localized downburst winds 30-40 mph in Antelope Valley Fri and Sat
* Assessment:
* Threat of cloud-to-ground lightning, including beaches.
* Dry lightning threat is minimal, mainly confined to the deserts and interior valleys.
* Threat of localized roadway flooding and shallow debris flows near recent burn areas.
MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY: HURRICANE SWELL
South to southeast swells from Hurricane Frank off of Baja will generate near high surf
* Surf of 4-8 feet common over beaches with any south exposure.
* Strong and dangerous rip currents are likely.
