The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard will NOT be holding a conference call today, but there are some items to raise to your awareness. Little change from previous email.
MODERATE TO STRONG WEST TO NORTH WINDS OVER THE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING:
Note, Coastal and adjacent valley areas will remain under a marine layer influence that will grow through Saturday. Details focus on the interior valleys and mountains including the
Antelope Valley
* Winds: South to west gusts 30-45 mph. Isolated gusts to 55 mph Antelope Valley foothills.
* Peak Today.
* Peak Pressure Gradients: LAX-Daggett +7-8 mb, LAX-Bakersfield and SBA-Bakersfield +7-8 mb (rare, 97th percentile)
* Humidity: Min 12-25% Today, 15-30% Fri. (Lowest Antelope Valley)
* Temperatures: Highs 82-92 Thu, 78-88 Fri.
* Assessment:
* Locally elevated fire weather conditions in windiest and driest locations today, especially around the Antelope Valley.
* Active wildfires and grass fires possible across interior
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND (SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY)
* Winds: W-N Gusts 30-50 mph. Isolated gusts to 60 mph on Sunday. (see wind graphic below)
* Strongest Southwest Santa Barbara County, Central Coast, I-5 Corridor, Antelope Valley.
* Strongest and most widespread Sunday, including all of Santa Barbara County, most of San Luis Obispo County, and Ventura Coast.
* Humidities: Mins 15-30% common interior valleys and mountains, Driest Sun & Mon.
* Potential for drier air (10-20%) Sunday afternoon and night, including the Santa Ynez Range.
* Coasts/valleys 30-50% common.
* Low confidence at this point.
* Temperatures: Highs 75-83 common inland of beaches each day.
* Compared to today: Warmer near the coast with less marine layer, Cooler interior.
* Marine Layer: Persistent over LA County, less coverage elsewhere.
* Surf: Small Sat 2-4 feet, building quickly to 6-9 feet Sun and Mon most beaches. Dangerous rip currents.
* Oceans: Strong Gale Force winds (35-45 knots) and steep seas all waters (except near LA County).
* Assessment:
* Elevated fire weather conditions possible over interior areas Sun & Mon.
* Brief critical conditions possible on Sunday, including over the Santa Ynez Range.
* Localized wind damage and power outages possible Sunday.
