Greetings. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles / Oxnard will NOT be holding a fire weather conference call today, but we would like to bring to your awareness another quick-hitting
weak to moderate Santa Ana wind event on Thursday that will likely lead to another round of elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions over portions of Los Angeles and Ventura
Counties. Light offshore flow and dry conditions will keep elevated fire weather conditions going through the weekend.
TODAY:
* Winds:
* Typical afternoon sea breezes for coasts/coastal valleys
* N-NW Gusts 25-40 mph early this evening western portion of Santa Ynez Range, diminishing after midnight
* Gusts 20-30 mph extending to the eastern portion around the Montecito Hills late tonight
* N-NW Gusts 20-30 mph through the Interstate 5 corridor into western Antelope Valley this evening
* Humidity: Mins 15-35% (driest over the mountains and interior)
* Temperatures: Highs 67-77
* Assessment: Elevated fire weather conditions possible across the mountains during the afternoon and evening hours
TONIGHT-THURSDAY:
* Winds: NE Gusts 25-40 mph late tonight through Thursday morning (isolated gusts to 50 mph LA County mountains)
* Winds strongest over wind-prone mountains and valleys of LA/eastern Ventura Counties
* Gradually weakening through the afternoon with breezy winds lingering over the mountains
* LAX-Daggett gradient to peak around -2 to -3 mb Thursday morning, weak upper-level wind support
* Humidity: Mins 8-20% wind-prone areas of LA/eastern Ventura Counties, 20-30% interior Santa Barbara/SLO Counties
* Temperatures: Highs 68-78
* Chilly overnight low temperatures over the highest mountains and interior valleys with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s
* Assessment:
* Elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions across much of LA and eastern Ventura counties
* 2-4 hours of Red Flag conditions possible mid-morning to early afternoon over LA & eastern Ventura County Valleys and Mountains
OUTLOOK: FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND
* Light offshore winds Friday and Saturday mornings with gusts 15-25 mph over the mountains and valleys of LA/eastern Ventura Counties
* Continued very dry conditions Friday through the weekend with minimum humidities 12-25% mountains and interior areas leading to elevated fire weather conditions
* Slight warming over the weekend with high temperatures near normal
* Continued chilly overnight lows over the interior with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s
* Temperatures are expected to cool early to mid next week with increased onshore flow as a trough develops over much of the West, although low confidence in the amount of cooling as
there is considerable model disagreement
