HomeMy WebLinkAboutRe_ Homeless Encampment Update - Caltrans removing encampment off Gentle Springs Friday 10_28_22.msgAll-
Caltrans performed their work throughout the day. There were several persons (6 or more) residing in the area, and many were seen in the nearby area including the parking lot behind
New Aashiyana Restaurant. Deputy Kerr and NI Jones were on site, and had conversation with the displaced persons as well as the manager of the restaurant. The displaced persons indicated
they were wanting service referral, however, when I reached out to LA CADA they were in another City and were unable to break away. They have the location on schedule for Monday. I
separately submitted another LA HOP request through LAHSA.
We may receive calls, emails, or service requests over the weekend. It was anticipated that we would receive additional concerns once Caltrans completed their work. Please forward
any concerns you get over the weekend.
Chris G in Public Works had to separately handle a fence issue on Prospectors under the SR-60 freeway possibly related to the Caltrans work. Caltrans is aware and will schedule fence
repair.
This is an ongoing and changing situation. I thank you all for your contributions and efforts.
Best,
Anthony

Good afternoon Team-
Caltrans notified me they will be removing the encampment off Gentle Springs behind Best Western this Friday, October 28. Please note Caltrans typically is on site with CHP.
I’m sharing internally and with our Sheriff Team. In the past CHP has handled the law enforcement aspect of the removal, but providing in case additional support is needed.
In case you get resident questions, we notified Caltrans of the encampment shortly after the SR-57 Diamond Bar Blvd/Sunset Crossing encampment was closed on 9/6/22. This process from
start to conclusion takes anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks. Note the individuals will likely relocate to another area in town. If you receive supplemental reports let me know.
Thanks,
Anthony

Subject: Homeless Encampment Update
All-
Since Caltrans has cleared the SR-57 Diamond Bar Blvd encampment south of Sunset Crossing, I’ve reached numerous calls/emails and online requests about other encampments. Below is a
quick summary of the locations. I’ve submitted Caltrans Customer Service Requests online for the locations, as well as LA HOP. Once they respond we will be in a better position to
update residents as they call.
1. Best Western – at the rear of the parking lot, on Caltrans ROW next to freeway.
2. Diamond Palace Restaurant – at the rear of the parking lot, on Caltrans ROW next to freeway.
3. SR-60 W/B off ramp onto Diamond Bar Blvd – just north of the off ramp on Caltrans ROW, but likely also on private property.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Anthony
