The National Weather Service in Oxnard will NOT be leading a local fire weather coordination call today. Following is an update on the potential for thunderstorms today and tomorrow and an outlook for the weekend and early next week. TODAY AND TONIGHT: Southeast flow aloft will bring a threat of monsoonal showers and thunderstorms * Shower and Thunderstorm chances starting this afternoon: * Los Angeles and Ventura County mountains and Antelope Valley: 20-35% * Santa Clarita and San Gabriel valleys: 15-20% * Los Angeles and Ventura County coast and valleys: 8-13% * Rainfall Details * Amounts and rates will be highly variable. * Potential for brief heavy downpours, especially mountains and Antelope Valley * Isolated rates of 0.50-0.75 inches per hour possible * Still warm with relatively high humidities * High temperatures 88-100 common away from the coast, warm overnight lows 65-75 common. * Lowest minimum humidities generally well above 20%. * Wind: Weaker than usual south to west winds. * Assessment: * Available moisture less than last week but still high; Instability more than last week. * Heavy rain and localized flash flooding is a threat near any storms that form * Highest flooding threat over Los Angeles and Ventura County Mountains and Antelope Valley. * Dry lightning threat is minimal to none. FRIDAY: Flow aloft begins to turn more southwesterly to bring some drying, but atmosphere expected to be more unstable than today and tonight * Shower and Thunderstorm chances starting in the morning: * Los Angeles and Ventura County mountains and Antelope Valley: 20-30% * Los Angeles and Ventura County coast and valleys: 8-13%, lowest in the afternoon. * Rainfall Details * Amounts and rates will be highly variable. * Potential for brief heavy downpours. * Isolated rates of 0.25-0.50 inches per hour possible * A little cooler but with relatively high humidities * High temperatures 85-95 common away from the coast, warm overnight lows 62-725 common. * Lowest minimum humidities generally well above 20%. * Wind: Weaker than usual south to west winds. * Assessment: * Less moisture to work with, but air mass expected to be more unstable. * Threat of heavy rain and localized flash flooding near any storms that form due to slightly faster moving storms, although the threat should be less than today. * Dry lightning threat slightly higher higher than today SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: * Decreased thunderstorm threat but warmer and drier. * Minimum humidities in the teens mountains and Antelope Valley * NW Sundowner wind gusts 35-50 mph each evening west of Goleta.
