Subject: NWS Los Angeles Fire Weather Notes - NO CALL - Thu Oct 13, 2022
Date: October 13, 2022 at 12:16:31 PM PDT
Greetings. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles / Oxnard will NOT be holding a fire weather conference call today, but wanted to update you on the thunderstorm threat which will
continue through at least Saturday.
A slowly moving low pressure system just off the coast will continue to bring moisture and unstable air over southwest California through at least Saturday. This will result in a threat
for thunderstorms and isolated flooding concerns. A surge of higher moisture will bring a more widespread threat of showers and thunderstorms to LA/Ventura counties late Friday night
into Saturday.
Today Through Friday:
* Highest chances between 12pm and 8pm.
* 15-30% chances focused over the mountains and much of Santa Barbara County (Higher chances today).
* Brief heavy downpours possible. Rain rates locally to around 0.50 inch/hour possible (mostly falling in a 15-30 minute time period)
* Rates this high can result in roadway/small stream flooding .
* Rain totals will be highly variable
* Gusty and erratic downdraft wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph expected with some storms.
* Including several miles away from the storm itself.
Friday Night Through Saturday:
* Potential for more widespread coverage of showers and thunderstorms across LA/Ventura counties (especially Saturday)
* 30-50% chance of showers and thunderstorms across LA/Ventura counties (highest chances across LA county)
* Brief heavy downpours possible. Rain rates locally to around 0.5 inches/hour possible (mostly falling in a 15-30 minute time period)
* Rates this high can result in roadway/small stream flooding
* Isolated gusty and erratic downdraft wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph possible
