Housing Element Update
The City Council adopted the 6th Cycle Housing Element on November 2, 2021. In accordance with State law, the City then submitted the adopted Housing Element to the California Department
of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for certification. However, on February 2, 2022, HCD notified the City that revisions will be necessary for the Housing Element to be in
compliance with State Housing Element Law. As of this writing, only 20 of the 197 member agencies of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) have received compliance
letters from HCD.
Staff and the City’s housing element consultant are completing the revisions requested by HCD. Because the revisions include additional and modified policies, the City Council must
readopt the amended Housing Element. The Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing during a special meeting on July 27 to consider the proposed revisions. Should the Planning
Commission recommend adoption, a City Council hearing to adopt the amended Housing Element is tentatively scheduled for August 16.
