Here are updated notes on expected fire weather conditions and the outlook into next week:
TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY:
* Winds:
* Afternoon and early evening southwest to west gusts of 20-30 mph portions of the mountains and interior, primarily Los Angeles County, with isolated gusts to 40 mph around Lake Palmdale
* Humidity:
* Min humidities 10-25 percent warmest warmer valleys into the mountains and interior
* Temperatures:
* Hot temperatures 90s to 106 valleys and interior. Very slight cooling Sunday.
* Large vertical plume growth potential in any new fire starts with mixing heights 10-15 kft mountains to the interior
* Monsoon Moisture:
* Bulk of the moisture still east and southeast of the area
* Afternoon cumulus development LA County mountains and adjacent parts of the Antelope Valley
* Slight chance (15-20%) of afternoon thunderstorms eastern LA County mountains and adjacent parts of the Antelope Valley today. Less than 10 percent chance on Saturday and Sunday
(lower confidence forecast).
* Assessment:
* Elevated fire weather conditions for portions of the LA County mountains and Antelope Valley with active wildfires and grass fires possible
* Brief heavy rain and localized flash flooding due slow moving thunderstorms. Dry lightning and gusty outflow winds cannot be ruled out.
* Moderate heat risk for those who are sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration, valleys to the interior
OUTLOOK FOR MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY:
* Minimum humidities 15-30 percent warmest valleys to the interior.
* Possible elevated fire weather conditions in the far interior
* Some cooling on Tuesday otherwise continued very warm valleys into the interior with highs 90s to around 100
* Possible afternoon mountain and Antelope Valley cumulus development; uncertainty at this time with any associated thunderstorm development eastern LA Co mountains
