HomeMy WebLinkAboutFW_ Potential Extension of Gabion Wall No_ 1It never ends...are you familiar with this area? I am not sure if it existed or if he dropped the grade.
Thanks

Ryan:
A big question in my mind is:
Did the vertical slope for this potential 36LF already exist, and we weren't able to see it on the 100'-scale aerial topo (design topo), OR in grading the trail, did DD Systems create
this condition by dropping the trail grade beyond the limits of where the Gabion Wall was to be constructed?? He SHOULD have staked out the end limits of Gabion Wall construction,
and asked for City review of a potential change in the design for the wall length, if more vertical slope existed. Having no awareness that he took this approach, I can only guess
at this point.

Thanks Dick.
If we do move forward I will need to have a serious discussion with the City Manager and be able to explain why we are in the situation and the alternative at this point if we don't
approve. Can you add your thoughts?
Thank You

Ryan:
At our field review last Friday, we discussed the need to extend the length of Gabion Wall No. 1 on the east end of the designated Gabion Wall improvements. The vertical cut to the
existing topography is approximately the same condition as along the proposed wall topography, so will need this same treatment.
Although the Gabion Wall bid items are Lump Sum Bids, I have calculated DD Systems equivalent linear foot costs; taking the LS Bid and dividing it by the linear footage of each of the
4 Gabion Walls (see scanned worksheet, attached).
Interestingly, all (4) Gabion Walls are relatively close in LF cost, even though some are (3) cages high, while others Gabion Walls are only (2) cages high.
I estimate needing to add 36 LF to Gabion Wall No. 1. At the calculated unit price on my worksheet, it should be close to $487.09/LF X 36 LF = $17,535.24
It seems like Danny should submit an RFI regarding this issue and the City can respond accordingly. At this time, I'm still considering how much paper work/design sketch I'll need to
generate for this item.
Thanks.
