Bio-monitoring Notes:
●The biologist surveyed the site for new vegetation disturbance, construction progress, and compliance
with permit requirements.
○New ground disturbance was monitored for the concrete V swale at the end of the trail and by
the upper gabion wall (Figure 2).
○Gabion cages continue to be assembled and placed along the trail.
●The mini excavator was parked along the trail. The skid steer was parked in the staging area.
●All biological resources were monitored and no adverse impacts occurred.

Start Time:0700 End Time:1630
Is project work activity compliant?Yes
Construction Activity Notes/Equipment Used:Hand tools,Mini excavator
-The mini excavator was used for excavating a roughly 90 ft long x 17 inch deep x 17 inch wide trench
for the concrete V swale at the south end of the trail by the housing (Figures 3-5).
-The mini excavator was used to move the V swale concrete pieces into place.
-Shovels were used for concrete V swale placement and backfilling.
-Gabion assembly took place using hand tools and hands.
-Mini excavator used to digging along north gabion wall (Figure 6).
-Anthony from the City of Diamond Bar was on site. They may have discussed a change in the placement
of the concrete V swale.

Bio-monitor Notes:
At the beginning of the morning the crew worked on assembling the gabion cages. By mid-morning the workers
assembled at the south end of the trail to excavate for a stretch of concrete V swale in an erosion zone. The
concrete V swales were installed after lunch. Once the stretch of V swale was installed the crew excavated
another area near the north end of the site where the first gabion wall was installed. This measured 8 ft long x 4 ft
wide x 8-12 inches deep. After excavation it was backfilled. This was only a new soil disturbance.
Anthony from the City of Diamond Bar visited the site during the V swale layout.
California gnatcatchers and cactus wren were heard at the north and south end of the project.
