Valley Blvd. #456 Alhambra, California 91803 Subject: Proposed Pool and Spa Lot 5; Tract 47851 2822 Bently Way Diamond Bar, California Gentlmen : Pursuant to your request, we have inspected the subject site on October 6, 2000, and reviewed the pool plans provided to Us by Ocean Swimming Pools. The site is part of a fully developed Tract which has been mass graded for single family developments. The subject site and surrounding lots are developed with single family residences. The property is currently developed with a two-story single family residence. The proposed pool is located on the nearly level pad area to the rear of the house. A compacted fill slope is descending off the rear side of the pad at a 2:1 gradient and a height of approximately 10 feet. Natural slopes continue to descend from the toe of the fill slope. The pool excavation willbe into corpac fill. placed during the original grading of the Tract. The rear yard area currently has good drainage to the street. Recommendations Soils on the site are silty fine sand from the sandstone bedrock underlying the site. They are expected to have a low expansion potential. Pool walls should be designed to resist lateral pressures equivalent to a fluid pressure of 30 pounds per cubic foot. Footings having a minimum embedment of 12 inches into firm soils may be designed for an allowable bearing pressure of 1500 pounds per square foot. A 1/3 increase in bearing pressure may be used in design when considering wind or seismic loads of short duration. Resistance to horizontal forces on foundations may be provided by the combined effect of passive sail pressures and frictional resistance between concrete and firm soils. Lateral soil pressures of 250 pounds per square foot per foot of depth may be used up to 1500 pounds per square foot. A coefficient of friction of 0.35 is recommended for the on -site soils. Patio slabs should have a minimum thickness of 4 inches and reinforced with a 6x6 - W 1.4 x W 1.4 (6x6 - 10/10) welded wire mesh, or equivalent placed at the center of the slab. Subgrade soils should have moisture contents above optimum. The opportunity to be of service to you on this project is appreciated, and if you have any questions, please feel free to call us at your convenience. Respectively submitted, SOILS AND GEOLOGY, INC. The referenced plan was. reviewed from a geotechnical standpoint for. conformance with our, recommendations only,.The plan was not reviewed as to the accuracy of dimensions, measurements, ' calculations• or•,any non-geI.otechnical portion ofthe, desigh., r Three copies"of the planhave been signed and` are being returned herewith for your use." Based upon our review- it appears .that the referenced, -plan is in general conformance with our previous recommendations During this review the following items were noted: 1. The' pad consists of a mimmum.of 8 feet of fill placed during rough grading'(ReferenceNo. 2). Comparison of the pad elevation shown on the -Precise Grading Plan with the as -graded, clevation'shown in Reference No: 2 indicates that no significant grading will be necessary' within the house or garage pad.. The subject lot contains an approximately 10-foot-high ascending slope along the north side of_the pad, a 40-£oat-high descending slope along the east side, an 11-foot-higlydescending slope acing the south side, and a lb -foot -high slope' in the front yard area descending to Bentley Way to the"west.'All slopes :are fill slopes constricted at an inclination of 2:1 (H:V). 3.. The only significant grading will involve minor, cutting and filling to raise the grade of the. entry andfor surface drainage purposes: Thisgrading should be performed in accordance with the City of Diamond Bar•Grading Ordinances, and observed/tested by a member of our, staff.
