Dear Mr. Bailey:
This letter/report presents a summary of observations and testing performed by Harrington
Geotechnical Engineering, Inc. on the subject lot since the completion of tract rough
grading. This work was performed on an as -called basis as scheduled by your personnel.
Exterior Utility Trench Backfills
Following the placement and compaction of the exterior utility trench backfills, the entire
lengths of the water, sewer and common trenches were probed with a smooth steel rod for
uniformity and randomly tested for compaction. The approximate trench locations are
shown on the attached Trench/Test Location Plan, Plate A, and test results are
summarized in Table II.
Maximum Dry Unit Weight/Optimum Moisture
Maximum dry unit weight/optimum moisture relations were established in the laboratory
in accordance with ASTM Test Method D1557 for the materials tested at the site. Results
obtained are summarized in Table I.
Field Unit Weight/Relative Compaction
In -place dry unit weights for the compacted backfills were determined by the drive -cylinder
method (ASTM D2937). Test results are summarized in Table II. These results were
compared to the maximum dry unit weights obtained in the laboratory to determine the
relative compaction values listed in the table. The approximate test locations are shown
on the attached Trench/Test Location Plan, Plate A.
