Based upon our review, it appears that the referenced plan is in general conformance
with our previous recommendations. During this review the following items were noted:
1. Based upon the comparison of the building pad elevation shown on the precise
grading. `plan with the as -graded elevation shown on the rough grading plan, it
appears that no significant grading will be necessary within the building area.
2. In order to improve surface drainage of the rear of the pad area, approximately
two feet of new fill has been proposed along the top of the exiting fill and natural
descending slope at the rear of the pad. The graded portion of the slope is part of
a shear key constructed during rough tract grading in order to increase the stabil-
ity of the building pad. The ,addition of the new fill along the top of this slope will
not significantly affect the gross stability of the pad and/or the slope. However,
proper placement and compaction of this fill will have a significant affect on the
surficial stability of the slope.
The; following; recommendations are presented for the placement and compaction
of the new fill at the rear of the pad area:
a); Following removal of any vegetation and all construction debris, the sur-
face of the area to receive new fill should be scarified to a' depth of six
inches, moisture conditioned to at least optimum moisture content and
compacted to at least 90 percent relative compaction based upon the
maximum dry unit weight determined by ASTM Test Method D1557.
b) The fill soil should then spread in thin lifts, moisture conditioned to at least
optimum moisture content and compacted to at least 90 percent relative
compaction. It is imperative that compaction to the degree specified .be
achieved to the slope surface:
c) Following placement and compaction of the additional fill, the top of slope
terrain should be re-established with compacted fill.
d) It is recommended that the site scarification, fill placement and compaction
be observed and tested by this firm:
3. Tests performed following the completion of rough grading indicated a, low expan-
Sion potential and moderate to severe water-soluble sulfate concentration for the
surface/near-surface soil as defined by the Uniform Building Code (see Ref. 5).
4. Foundation and floor slab design criteria for a Type II system presented in Table
A of the rough grading report (Ref. 2) are considered applicable to this lot.
