The graded descending slope at the rear of the property is part of a stabilization fill that was constructed in order to increase the stability of the slope. No significant grading of this slope is proposed. 3. Tests performed following the completion of rough grading indicted a low expansion potential and, negligible water-soluble sulfate concentration for the surface/near-surface, soils as defined by the Uniform Building Code. 4. Foundation and floor slab design criteria for a Type Il system presented in Table A of the rough grading report (Ref. 2) are 'considered applicable to this lot. 5. Sulfate resistant concrete containing Type V cement is not considered necessary for this lot (see Ref. 5). 6. A retaining wall is planned ,along the toe of the northerly ascending 2:1 (H:V), slope. The setback of the residence from the 'retaining wall is at least 11 feet and meets the require- ment of Section 1806, of the 1994 Uniform Building Code. This retaining wall may be designed using the soil parameters and recommendations presented in the referenced geotechnical report of rough grading (Ref. 2) and an equivalent active earth pressure of 45 pounds per square foot.per foot of depth. 7. The homeowner.should be informed that future grading to alter the slopes should not be performed without review by a geotechnical consultant familiar with rough grading of the tract. In addition, the homeowner should be informed of the importance of slope land- scaping, maintenance and erosion control and should be provided with guidelines that were appended to the referenced rough grading report (Appendix C Ref. 2) and the standard recommendations (Ref. 4). Dear Mr. Mazur: In response to a request from R. Gould & Associates, Inc., we have reviewed the referenced precise grading plan, plot plan, foundation plan and building sections for Lot 28 of Tract 47851. The referenced plans and sections were reviewed from a geotechnical standpoint for conformance with our recommendations only. These plans and sections were not reviewed as to the accuracy of dimensions, measurements, calculations or any non- geotechnical portion of the design. Batavia Business Center, 1938 North Batavia Street, Suite N, Orange, CA 92665 (714) 637-3093 - (800) 924-7645 - FAX (714) 637-3096 DIAMOND EAST PARTNERS Project No. 91-02-0109A-28 May 12, 1995 Page 2 Based upon our review it appears that the referenced plans and sections are in general conformance with our previous recommendations. During this review the following items were noted: Based upon the comparison of the pad elevation shown on the precise grading plan with the as -graded elevation shown on the rough grading plan it appears that no significant grading is planned as part of the lot development. Maximum depth of cut or fill is approximately two feet for grading of the driveway. 2. No significant changes to the on -site or adjacent slopes are currently planned. The homeowner should be informed that future grading to alter the slopes should not be performed without review by a geotechnical consultant familiar with rough grading of the tract. It should be noted that the adjacent westerly off -site slope is part of a structural stabilization fill. In addition, the homeowner should be informed of the importance of slope landscaping, maintenance and erosion control and should be provided with guidelines that were appended to the referenced rough grading report Appendix C). 3. Preliminary tests performed at the completion of rough grading indicate a low expansion potential and negligible water-soluble sulfate concentration for the surface/near-surface soils as defined by the Uniform Building Code. 4. Foundation and floor slab design recommendations for Type II as presented in Table A of the rough grading report (Ref. 3) are considered applicable to this lot. 5. Sulfate resistant concrete, i.e. concrete containing Type V cement is currently considered unnecessary for this lot. The concentration of water-soluble sulfate should be confirmed by additional testing prior to any concrete placement. Four copies of the precise grading plan have been stamped, signed and returned to R. Gould & Associates for submittal to the City of Diamond Bar. One copy has been retained for our records. 9 DIAMOND EAST PARTNERS Project No. 91-02-0109A-28 May 12, 1995 Page 3 We trust that this letter/report is adequate for your current needs.
