Weather Conditions Conditions: Temperature:52°F Humidity:63%Wind:SW 2mph Cloud Cover %:0 Temperature:75°F Humidity:28%Wind:NE 6 mph Cloud Cover %:55 1 Endemic Environmental Services Construction Activity Name of Contractors Performing Work:DD Systems Relevant Person(s) in charge of construction:Danny Start Time:0700 End Time:1430 Is project work activity compliant?Yes Construction Activity Notes/Equipment Used:Mini excavator, shovels, skid steer A mini excavator was used to dig and smooth out the bench area on the slope on the southern trail (Figure 2). This area will be the site for a new bench and trailhead. The southern trail was widened and leveled to make space for the gabion installation. The crew also used shovels to even out the ground and laid down hose and PVC pipe for wind erosion control. 2 Endemic Environmental Services Biological Resource Findings Were there any listed species observed on or near site?Yes If yes, then: Was listed species impacted due to work?No Species Common/ Scientific Name:Coastal California gnatcatcher (Polioptila californica californica) Time of Observed Listed Species:07:15, 12:45 GPS Location of Listed Species (if applicable):34,003174,-117.796608 Description of Listed Location:The male and female were observed in coastal sage scrub adjacent to oak woodland below the northern slope. The bird was observed and recognized by its call. Multiple CAGN were heard calling throughout the coastal sage scrub in this area (Figure 3). Bio-monitor Notes:The coastal California gnatcatcher was observed outside the trail improvement area. The location was between the northern trail and a grove of California live oaks (Quercus agrifolia). 3 Endemic Environmental Services Species Take Section Was there a take of any listed or regulated species? No If yes, then: What type of take occurred? Species Common Name/ Scientific Name: Age/Class: Gender: Did take occur due to project work activity? GPS Location of Take (if applicable): Description Location of Take: Bio-monitor Notes 4 Endemic Environmental Services Nest Findings Were there any nests observed on or near project site?No If yes, then: Were nests active or non-active? Nest(s): Species (If identifiable): Time Observed:Nesting Status: GPS Point of Nest: Location Description of Nest: Biomonitor Notes: Other Nest Notes: 5 Endemic Environmental Services Nest Removal Section Were there any Nests removed? No If yes, then: Was the MBTA Nest active or non-active? Time of Nest Removal? Why was the nest removed?: Species Scientific/ Common Name: GPS Location of Removed Nest (If applicable): Bio-monitor Notes: 6 Endemic Environmental Services Wetlands and Jurisdictional Waters of the U.S. Are Wetlands or Jurisdictional Waters of the United States Present? No If yes, then: What Watershed? Were Wetlands or Jurisdictional Waters of the United States impacted by project work activity? No What type of impact occurred? Bio-monitor Notes: 7 Endemic Environmental Services Vegetation Impact Section Was vegetation impacted by project work activity?Yes If yes, then: Habitat Type:Coastal sage scrub Type of Vegetation Impacted:Prickly pear cactus (Opuntia littoralis),California buckwheat (Eriogonum fasciculatum), black sage (Salvia mellifera), California sagebrush (Artemisia californica) What type of impact occurred?Minor veg clearing during trail widening activities (Figure 4). Square Footage of Impacted Area:305 sq ft or .007 acres Bio-monitor Notes:Small sections of native sage scrub were removed by the excavator and hand shovels when widening the trail and preparing the southern trail for gabion installation. The trail was expanded in one section on the northern side of the trail an average of 2 feet wider for a stretch of 115 feet (230 sq ft).The second section was widened by 1 foot for 75 feet along the trail (75 sq ft). 8 Endemic Environmental Services Non-Listed Species Section Were there any non-listed species observed?Yes If yes, then: Species Common/ Scientific Name: Northern flicker (Colaptes auratus),American crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos),mourning dove (Zenaida macroura),Say’s phoebe (Sayornis saya),black phoebe (Sayornis nigricans),common raven (Corvus corax), red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis),house finch (Haemorhous mexicanus),California thrasher (Toxostoma redivivum),California quail (Callipepla californica),northern mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos),California towhee (Melozone crissalis),Anna’s hummingbird (Calypte anna),California scrub-jay (Aphelocoma californica),turkey vulture (Cathartes aura),wrentit (Chamaea fasciata),white-crowned sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys),California ground squirrel (Otospermophilus beecheyi),side-blotched lizard (Uta stansburiana), western fence lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis). Bio-monitor Notes: Two native California scorpions (Paruroctonus silvestrii)and one tiger centipede (Scolopendra polymorpha) were relocated roughly 50 feet away from project activities during trail widening. 9 Endemic Environmental Services Photos Section Figure 1.Site overview prior to the start of work.
