Dear Mr. Shum:
This addendum provides EGL`s response to the City of Diamond Bar Soil/Geology Review letter,
dated June 23, 2000, for the subject site. For your reference, the review letter is attached and the
responses to each item are presented below.
Item 1
Based on the referenced No. 5 report, a shear key and stabilization fill was placed in 1970 to
stabilize the existing north-northeast facing slope. The along bedding shear strength parameters
provided in the referenced No. 5 report are lower than the values obtained from our investigation
results. The boring, B-1 (referenced No. 2 report) encountered approximately 9 feet of slopewash
should be compacted fill) which coincides with the previous grading work.. It is believed that the
existing shear key and stabilization fill would provide necessary slope stability of the existing
slope.

Item 2
The recommended key location was placed according to the grading plan prepared by EGL
Associates, Inc. The depth of the key was 6 to 8' below existing grade (in lieu of 3' recommended
in the grading plan). The key was deepened due to the disturbance and loosening near the
surface. The key was placed in the previous stabilization fill which consists predominantly
siltstone fragments in sandy matrix. A 4" perforated PVC subdrain pipe was placed according to
our recommendations and the grading plan. The outlet of the pipe was not constructed at this
stage. A riser pipe was placed to indicate the end of the subdrain pipe.

Previous reports regarding the slope and stability key constructed for Lot 61, Tract 30577, is available in our
office and in the City of Diamond Bar files (Stone & Associates, June 11, 1970). The consultant must
review this report and comment on the adequacy of the slope stability.
Based upon a site visit, it appears that the site is being graded. Has EGL been providing geologic and soils
engineering observation and testing? Discuss the geologic conditions exposed. It appears that the
previously recommended stability key has been constructed. Was this key mapped and accepted by EGL, as
previously recommended? Was subdrainage installed?

We have received several versions of the May 30, 2000, report concerning 2501 Crow Foot Lane. Provide a
single revised document incorporating all revisions.
