Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors
Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration
500 West Temple St. Ste 383
Los Angeles, CA 90012
Dear Honorable Board of Supervisors:
As Mayor for the City of Diamond Bar, I would like to communicate my appreciation
to the Board of Supervisors for continuing the discussion on improved public safety,
including the recent implementation of the Jail Closure Implementation Team to
explore management of the jail population – especially those awaiting transfer to
alternative placements or in need of mental health treatment.
The Diamond Bar community has been steadfast in its support of robust and responsive
public safety efforts designed to ensure a safe and enjoyable community for residents
and businesses. While the City does not operate its own public safety services,
Diamond Bar does rely on Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and other County
services to provide critical jail and mental health services. I would request that should
any decision be made to close or reduce jail capacity in the County, that all
alternatives be explored to ensure the public’s safety remains the top priority.
I am hopeful that an equitable decision can be made to ensure the continued safety
of residents and businesses we mutually serve. Please feel free to reach out to me
directly, or City Manager Dan Fox at 909.839.7010 or dfox@diamondbarca.gov.
Sincerely,
Nancy Lyons
Mayor
