RE: Please Disseminate Information to Commissioners
Dear Mr. Wright,
Thank you for the opportunity to reach out to the City of Diamond Bar, Parks and Recreation Department.
Please copy and send this email and attachments to the Parks & Recreation Commissioners for this evening's meeting, Jan. 28, 2021. I will be participating in Public Comments tonight.
The attached information is an outline of ecological assessments of the City of Diamond Bar "natural communities" (California Native landscapes) and the species which inhabit them. The
natural communities are distributed throughout the city, including key park and trail areas.
In 2018, the scientific study was commissioned by residents, our local Sierra Club and a couple of grassroot non-profit groups, who are interested in conserving and restoring Diamond
Bar's historic, natural vegetation - which, over the years, has suffered incremental degradation. (Hamilton Biological November 2020 comment letter outlines this issue.) Hamilton Biological,
Inc., submitted the "City of Diamond Bar Biological Resources Report" and the "City of Diamond Bar, Natural Communities" map, February 2019, to the City of Diamond Bar, City Manager
and Community Development Director. This information was received and recognized by the city's adopted General Plan 2040. This data is also on file with the California Dept. Fish,
Wildlife and the U.S. dept. Fish, Wildlife Service.
Considering and comprehending this data is essential in reaching for better ecological integrity in natural park and trail management.
The Diamond Bar - Pomona Valley Sierra Club Task Force is interested in exploring pathways to better, local conservation land management practices for ecologically sensitive habitats
within the city, through education and advocacy. We are part of the Sierra Club, Angeles Chapter and are a non-profit, public benefit group which also maintain connections with environmental
regulatory agencies to assist in conservation efforts.
I thank you for your attention to this matter, disseminating this information to the Parks & Recreation Commissioners, and also placing this letter on the Public Record.
Respectfully Submitted,
Robin Smith
