The Honorable Josh Newman
California State Senate, 29th District
State Capitol, Room 4066
Sacramento, CA 95814
Dear Senator Newman:
As Mayor for the City of Diamond Bar, I would greatly appreciate your assistance
recommending to Governor Newsom that funding be expanded for the Statewide
Park Development and Community Revitalization Program Grant, known as
Proposition 68 Park funding. The State is currently reviewing applications under Cycle
4 of the Proposition 68 Program, and funding a future Cycle 5 would help ensure vital
recreation projects can be constructed Statewide.
The City of Diamond Bar has a tremendous unmet need for park space. As an
example, the Sunset Crossing neighborhood is a disadvantaged neighborhood with
0 park acres per 1,000 residents, and nearly two miles from the closest City park. The
future park at Sunset Crossing would transform a City owned vacant lot into a
neighborhood park with a tot lot, basketball court, pickleball courts, picnic tables,
par course for exercising, and be a multigenerational park for persons of all ages and
mobility types. The Heritage Park Rehabilitation Project would make needed ADA
Accessibility improvements and provide new programming and recreational
opportunities to one of the oldest facilities in the City.
The City’s two grant applications are currently under review by the State Parks as part
of the highly competitive Proposition 68 Cycle 4 grant process. An expanded
Proposition 68 Cycle 5 Program will provide additional opportunities for cities to submit
grant applications under this competitive grant program should they not be
successful this grant cycle.
If you have any questions about the City’s grant applications, please contact
Assistant to the City Manager Anthony Santos at 909.839.7013 or
asantos@diamondbarca.gov.
Very truly yours,
Nancy Lyons, Mayor
