RE: SB 619 (Laird) Organic Waste: Reduction Regulations
Dear Senator Allen:
The City of Diamond Bar would like to express its support in concept for SB 619 (Laird),
which would help cities implement SB 1383 (Lara) and subsequent CalRecycle regulations.
Over the past several years, CalRecycle has developed regulations to implement
statewide organic waste diversion goals set forth in SB 1383 by Senator Lara in 2016. SB 619
seeks to help local governments implement SB 1383 by allowing for additional time and
flexibility to comply with the regulations.
The City has been working with its franchise haulers to meet the additional requirements
under SB 1383. However, additional time and flexibility will be key to ensuring that
appropriate programs and services can be implemented to ensure the public and
businesses fully understand program implementation, and soften the blow of anticipated
solid waste rate increases from expanded programs.
For these reasons, the City of Diamond Bar Supports SB 619 in concept and urges this
legislation proceed with additional discussion.
Sincerely,
Nancy Lyons
