HomeMy WebLinkAboutRE Crooked Creek, Diamond Bar - Updated Geotech StudyFrom: Mayuko Nakajima Sent: Friday, September 11, 2020 4:26 PM To: 'J. Rob Meserve' Cc: Bryan Avilla; Ian Harvey; Christian Malpica Subject: RE: Crooked Creek, Diamond Bar - Updated Geotech Study Here you go. Please coordinate with Christian if you have any questions on the Geotech comments. Thanks, The Geotechnical Report has been reviewed and following are the correction: 1. Provide Legend for Plate 1 – Geotechnical Map. Total depth and depth to bedrock at each boring location should be depicted on the plan next to each boring. 2. Not all the boring logs are shown on the plan. The report should only include borings that are within the project limits. Such as GeoSoils boring B-8-15 dated 7/2/15, or others. 3. Deeper compressible and collapsible alluvium is reported at and below maximum recommended 15 feet over-excavation, at lower blow counts and high collapse potential. Why the removal is limited to 15 feet? 4. Settlements of several inches of alluvium/landslide debris are reported under Section 2.9 but later, in the same section the predicted settlement under footings are reported as 0.5 inch or less. The settlement is reported as less than 1.0 inch and 0.5 inch for total and differential case, and up to 2.0 inches for post-tension foundation, Section 4.5.5 Foundation Settlement. Please clarify and provide necessary explanations to support the stated conclusions. 5. Provide direct shear test results for engineered fill, alluvium, and slide debris, to support the data used in slope stability analysis. 6. Print the name, address, and phone number of the Project Geotechnical Consultant and list all applicable geotechnical reports on the grading plans. 7. All geotechnical recommended remedial grading, including limits and depths, should be depicted on the final grading plans. 8. Geotechnical consultant should review the final grading (include limits and depth of over-excavation) and foundation and confirm that their conclusions and recommendations are valid with respect to the proposed design by signing and stamping such plans. 9. The following note must appear on grading and foundation plans: “All the remedial grading/over-excavation and foundation excavations, must be observed and approved by the Project Geotechnical Consultant prior to backfilling and placement of reinforcing steel.” 10. Geotechnical consultant of record should be present during grading and foundation excavation. 11. A progress and final geotechnical report prepared by the geotechnical consultant must be submitted to the City for review. The report must include the results of all compaction tests as well as a map depicting the limits of over- excavation, grading, observed geologic conditions, locations of all density tests, locations and elevations of all removal bottoms, and location and elevation of retaining wall backfill and subdrains outlets.
