The City Council of Diamond Bar respectfully supports SB 696, which would
allow the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) to restart
issuing urgently needed air permits to businesses and public agencies.
There are currently a large number of essential public service projects in the
region that are on hold due to the lack of credits including hospitals, schools,
landfills, sewage treatment plants, and renewable energy projects. Small
businesses such as dry cleaners, gas stations, and printers have also been
affected. As a City with a significant small business base, the City of Diamond
Bar understands the important role the AQMD and its air permit program are to
businesses and public agencies—especially during these difficult economic
times.
Our region has experienced steady improvements in air quality under the strict
but fair AQMD rules and regulations. As our nation experiences the worst
economic crisis in decades, it is critical that the AQMD continue to operate its
credit bank, which will provide businesses with the credits they need to upgrade
and become more efficient, and ultimately improve long-term air quality.
For these reasons, the City of Diamond Bar supports SB 696.
Sincerely,
R• Everett
